Comedian and Winners and Losers actress Denise Scott performed to a sold out crowd at The Arts Theatre, Adelaide, on the penultimate night of her short Fringe Festival run.
Attracting a crowd of all ages, Scott candidly discussed her life from a child until the present day and did so in a way that was nothing short of hilarious for everyone watching. Even the Gen Y set who were too young to understand references from the 80’s, when Scott’s solo career took off, could not help but be captivated by her storytelling. If it was not for the fact that she stated her age, a young 58, you could be excused for thinking you were watching a 20 something on stage given the level of energy, the number of profanities used and the nonchalant nature of the jokes told.
Scott’s ability to veer from the structure of the routine linking previous ad-libbed elements and then bring it back on track was the sign of a quintessential performer. Her charisma was enchanting and moreish and made the 90 minutes breeze by; a definite highlight of the 2014 Fringe Festival.
